Synchronized Modular Transporters For Locomotive Transport – 40 T + 40 T

The production of railway vehicles requires multiple stages where materials and components must be moved within the plant. Typically, railway carriage and locomotive manufacturing plants are expansive, necessitating specialized equipment to efficiently transfer materials from one area to another.

Modern rail carriages consist of long sections of lightweight materials that need to be transported throughout the facility. Due to their size, length, weight, and structural characteristics, these materials require dedicated transport systems to ensure they are handled safely and efficiently. For example, a steel section measuring 15 to 20 meters in length must be moved with great care to prevent accidental bending as it is transferred between different parts of the plant.

Morello has developed specialized electric transporters for moving railway carriages, large locomotives, and trams, making in-plant operations safer and more streamlined.

Whether you’re working with high-speed or heavy-load transport, and whether it’s for conventional railway systems or urban transport networks, Morello provides custom-built transporter solutions tailored to your needs.
Morello’s solutions have been trusted by major international manufacturers in the rail and transportation industries, including companies such as Alstom, Siemens, and Hitachi, in various countries for both manufacturing and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) purposes.

The Challenge

Moving locomotives that weigh over 70 tons and are more than 12 meters in length.
No overhead cranes can be used.
The final solution must account for the structure and flexibility of the materials being transported.
While the working environment is relatively clean and organized, it poses space constraints, so specialized solutions are required for maneuvering in tight spaces.

The Morello Solution

For one specific project, two transporters were designed to accommodate the length and structure of the locomotive. These two transporters were omnidirectional, featuring multidirectional steering powered by individual motorized wheel units—a cutting-edge solution.
The two synchronized omnidirectional transporters move in tandem, regardless of whether they are carrying a load or not. In other words, the synchronized movement is independent of the load, thanks to the hardware and software engineered by Morello.
The transporters are designed to maintain synchronized movement over long distances and extended operational periods without any loss of coordination. This ultra-stable synchronization system is an in-house innovation, fully developed by Morello’s engineering team.

    Key Features of Morello Technology

    • Omnidirectional or multidirectional steering for versatile movement.
    • Fully electric motors and steering mechanisms, eliminating the need for hydraulic engines, which significantly reduces maintenance and avoids oil and dirt contamination.
    • Hydraulic suspension systems for better grip and balance on uneven surfaces, both indoors and outdoors.
    • All-wheel drive, with individual motors for each wheel, ensuring optimal traction on all surfaces and inclines. Each wheel unit has its own braking system, enhancing stopping power and efficiency.
    • Powered by lithium batteries for long-lasting, reliable performance.
    • Brushless electric motors, offering high precision and zero maintenance.
    • Proprietary Morello software, developed and refined over many years, now used by major global corporations.
    • Advanced system diagnostics displayed on a modern HMI.
    • IoT connectivity with built-in remote technical assistance capabilities.
    • PLC and HMI systems: Featuring top-tier brands like Siemens or Allen Bradley for ultimate reliability.
    • Morello OMNI transporters can also be adapted to AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) configurations by adding AGV sensors and additional software.
